| Do you bake goodies at Christmas time? If so, what do you make? |

It's been a while since Ive actually baked for Christmas, unless you count blueberry muffins from a mix...
When I was little, we would visit my cousin and her family for Christmas. We would always make turtles and popcorn balls. I miss that!
Every year for Christmas I make blueberry muffins for breakfast. While the kids are playing with thier new toys I'll make them. I don't think it would be the same if I didn't make the muffins!!
Oh, we started making sugar cookies last year and decorating them for Santa... that may be something we do every year now as well. |

I am going to Shelly's for Christmas dinner. :D I like the sound of all her goodies.
I make brownies, cherry cheesecake and carrot cake.
Those are what my kids always look for.
Haven't done any baking yet because if I do, it will be gone by Christmas.
Shelly, one question, what is shoo fly pie? I have heard of it before but have no idea what it is. |

| I used to do a lot more baking when the kids were younger. These days I don't have the patience for making cookies, although I love eating them, so I bake bread, muffins, bars and easy cakes. |

I will dig out my recipe for shoo fly pie Miss Darlene (sweetie) LOL and try to post it tomorrow.
Its a local thing I guess, originally started by the PA Dutch and the PA Amish...has molasses and stuff in it. I like mine with a crumb topping. I will post it, I have to dig it out and type it in.
Yes...I do recipes at my parties...some are simple ones and some are more detailed ones...depending on the party theme I am doing. I change my party themes every 2 months...I offer my hosts a list of 10 different party themes and rotate it...because I don't want Jill to book a party from Jane and it be the same old dang thing. I am finding my hosts and guests love the theme parties and they love to choose what theme.
Simple Recipes would be microwave dishes, dips, salsa's and yes appetizers.
Mommy & Me kiddie parties go over really well. |

Shelly- you have been a very busy Lady! I love serving dips, cookies, cakes & breads for guests at parties- they love all of it, but especially the dips!! Chipotle dip seems to go really well this year! And I like your idea of rotating theme parties, I usually offer my Hostesses themes & let them choose the ones they like & do that at the parties.
So far this year I've baked Christmas cookies, Banana Bread & fudge- these are what we make every year for Christmas.

Thanks Sweetie!
I will post both recipes...one is for Shoo-Fly Cake and one is for the pie!
Shoo-Fly Cake
1 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. boiling water
1 Tbsp. baking soda
4 c. flour
3/4 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 lb. brown sugar
Cool Whip *optional for serving*
Mix molasses, boiling water and baking soda together and set aside. Mix the flour, shortening, salt and brown sugar together with a fork or pastry blender until it crumbles. Reserve 1 cup of crumbs for the topping.
Mix rest of the ingredients (crumbs & liquid) together. Pour into a 13x9" pan. Do not grease your pan! Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. Top with the crumbs and baking another 5 minutes. Cool.
You can serve it with whip topping on the top :) |
