Brendan (4) is driving me insane he refuses to pee in the toilet. He goes where ever he is. I am going nuts telling him to use the bathroom. any ideas? Jeffery went through this but I cant remember what finally worked

Has there been any changes in your household? Added stress? Changes? Has he always done this or is it something new? Did you ask if he's afraid of the toilet? He may feel he may get flushed or something. If that is the case, then he may need a smaller toilet seat cover (there's one you can buy kid size to just put on top of the regular toilet seat.)

Have you tried rewarding him when he uses the potty? Maybe big brother can help and encourage him to use the potty like a big boy.

Congratulations to him for graduating preschool. That is so cute. You're welcome on the suggestion. I hope everything will work out soon.

I am wondering what type of reward system did you all have set up for your kids when they were being potty trained?

Depending on what your child likes -- except food items. LOL. Stickers or small toys, colouring book, reading books, puzzles, etc. Or you give them a sticker each time they use the potty and they would have to accumulate a certain amount say 6-10 to get a reward item. Like I said, it will depend on your child as 10 may not be an attainable goal for him or her and once they have mastered the potty training, stop the reward.

I had little charts made up for my boys when I was training them. For going pee they got a silver star and for doing more than that they got a gold star. The charts were marked for each day of the week. It got to where they were going to the bathroom all the time just to get the stars. They really thought that was great. I gave my two sons their charts a few years ago and I think they still have them. lol

My second son never had a chart as he was fully trained at one year old. I started with him right away. My great aunt told me to start and I did. I would sit the pot on my knee when I was feeding him or something and catch him quick when he was filling his diaper. Some people thought I was crazy but by the time he was one year old he was in little boy's underwear. It was great. I never did that with my other two. Have no idea why.
