Ok, I am trying to get started with a family history. Its very interesting once you get going.
My question for this week is
Have you ever done or started any family history? How is it going? |

Yes I have through Geneaology and I love it!!
I have traced my grandmothers' side of the family back to 1460 and I'm still working on my family tree and have so far input 816 names or so of family. I have recently been contacted by mothers' side of the family- whom I've never met. We have swapped photos and family history. It's very intersting and very rewarding to know where your family came from, etc.
If you need Help Darlene- please don't hesitate to ask me, I started my family tree back in Jan. of 2001 and I'm still going at it. It's wonderful and exciting to meet new family members, swap photos and informartion.
A couple of good places to start with is to go to
* www.familysearch.org
* www.rootsweb.com
* www.globalsearch.com
* www.gencircles.com
* www.geneaology.com
* U.S. 1880 census is another good place to start.
Also www.tribalpages.com is a good place to start inputting your family tree- it's FREE and no cost to you.
It's always important to have the birth year date of a family member that you're researching and where they were born. If you don't just input their name & go from there.
And of course, Please ask family members for information and photos to- as that will come in handy. Email me if you have any questions.

Thanks Rosie. I have started my father in laws family history but its slow going. I just don't have time to get at it. My cousin has done my grandfathers and is still at it. Its taken him 5 years so far. He is way back too and has met many new relatives we didn't know we had.
I want to get back at it soon. IF I ever get the time to sit for a bit and do it.
Thank for the resources. I am sure they will come in handy. I will contact you if I need a question answered. :D |
